Namaste 😊

I am a morning person - means I wake up at 4:30 or 5 in the morning every single day! (weekends are no exception!). I have been like this since I was 3 years old as far as I remember. My father is an early riser and thanks to him that I got into a habit of rising early. He hated seeing people sleep until late in the morning, if he saw me sleeping after 7:00 am he would pull off my blanket and keep it in a place where I cannot reach so that I had to forcibly wake up. As it wasn't warm and cozy afterwards I would wake up in no time! My mother also used to tell me often '8 hours of sleep is enough for a human being, so no need to sleep beyond that!!'🙄 It used to annoy me sometimes too. But now I realise it is a blessing to be able to wake up before sunrise. I work way too faster and finish majority of the daily chores in the morning. I am so energetic throughout the day. I also realise that I am slowly becoming like my dad (I too don't like to see people sleeping until late!). Now I exactly know how my dad felt back then! But somehow my parents could not train my siblings to get into this amazing habit. They can sleep like a log all day!!! God it is so annoying to see that!! May be they were more determined than I was 😄

As we all know everything has pros and cons my practice of early rising has its own disadvantages too! My brain and body is so active since 4 am that I am completely exhausted by evening. I am mostly not in a mood to cook when I get back home from work. I could not be bothered to do anything at all! But I do want something super quick and tasty and nutritious as well for my dinner. It is then I started finding out quick recipes so that I don't starve and deprived of nutrition on weekdays!

So today I am going to share an easy, hassle free, quick, nutritious, tasty and mild dal that goes with rice and any kind of roti.

Ingredients:

1 cup yellow split lentils

5 cups water

1 garlic pod crushed

1 medium size onion chopped

1 tsp ginger paste

4-5 green chillies slit lengthwise

2 medium size tomatoes cut into cubes

1 tsp sugar

Salt as per taste

1 tsp ghee

1/2 tsp turmeric

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 tsp jeera/cumin

1 tsp red chilli powder or any sambar powder

1 tbsp coriander finely chopped

For tadka - 1 tsp mustard, 2 dry red chillies, 1/4 tsp asafoetida, 1 tbsp ghee, 3-4 curry leaves

Method:

-Wash the moong dal/lentil

-Add all the ingredients to a pressure cooker and cook until 4 whistles. Once the pressure releases, add the tadka.

-For tadka, heat the ghee in a pan, add mustard, red chillies, curry leaves and asafoetida, once it splutters, add it to the cooked dal. It is ready to serve.

As simple as that!

Notes:

-I did not have coriander so it isn't seen in the picture!

-You can also add in any vegetables of your choice along with all the other ingredients

-If you are feeling too lazy, skip the tadka!

Cheers!
