Namaste 😊
How many of us buy some ingredients thinking of one dish and then struggle finishing it? I did. But not anymore! I think this is one common struggle of every beginner. In the initial days of learning to cook I used to look at enormous amount of recipes, videos and pictures and felt motivated to make it 🦾. After deciding the recipe I would immediately rush to the store and buy the required ingredients. After that one dish is made obviously there was so much leftover stuff and I could not think of making another dish with same items and the other reason is may be I was tired of cooking by the end of it and left with no more urge to cook! And those items bought would just sit in my grocery cupboard and after sometime they would expire and I threw it into the bin! Not very nice isn't it? I am not proud of it either. It was my absolute inexperience with handling the kitchen and little knowledge about cooking which made me a bit careless. Sometimes I even got annoyed and thought - 'why don't these grocery stores sell all stuffs in smaller quantities??? Like they can have a beginner pack or something. Do they want me to cook and feed all the people in my building?😠!!'
But I must also say, that did not continue for long. I soon realised the mistake and started strategically planning my purchases. I would buy things that could be used in making variety of dishes and I planned meals accordingly. Wow...I felt so smart for sometime 😂. It is still in practice and forever will be. I do not buy anything that I cannot use in multiple dishes. Never going to waste anything when there is so much hunger & poverty in the world. I may not be able to change the whole world but I can certainly do my bit and that definitely counts!
I remembered this because my dish today was inspired by the same concept - 'No wastage whatsoever!'
I had half a cup of mango puree left (I had saved it because I just did not want it to get over and it turned out to be very useful😄). I called my mum for recipe and as always I got the simple and delicious recipe from the best cook 🤗
The name 'saasive' means mustard. This recipe is called saasive because mustard is the main flavouring ingredient here. This recipe is very popular in Havyaka household and we eat it almost everyday during mango season. Do try and I am sure you will like it.

Ingredients:
5 tbsp mango puree
3 tbsp shredded coconut
1/4 tsp brown mustard seeds
1/4 tsp turmeric
1 green chilli
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 cup whisked yogurt
To temper (tadka) - 2 dried red chillies, 1/2 tsp brown mustard seeds, 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing), 1 tsp oil
Method:
-mix the mango puree, yogurt and salt and keep aside
-in a blender add coconut, turmeric and green chilli and with a little bit of water blend it into smooth paste.
-Add the coconut paste to the mango & yogurt puree and give it a good mix
-In a tadka pan add musratd, oil, chilles and asafoetida and let them splutter. Once they do, add it to the raita and mix.
-Serve it with cooked rice and pickle.
Notes:
-Do not exceed the quantity of mustard and turmeric mentioned as it will get very pungent
-You can adjust the thickness by adding more yogurt
-I do not recommend storing this for more than one day. Aim to finish it the same day you make
Cheers!
