Namaste...🙏
Granny's story - There lived a crow and a sparrow in a small village. Crow was selfish & evil and sparrow was harmless & kind. They would go to a stream nearby to bathe and wash clothes everyday. Days passed by and sparrow had laid some eggs meanwhile. Evil crow who was aware of this wanted to eat those eggs and started making plans! One day they went to the stream and found that all the water had dried up! They went searching for another one, when they found it there was water but no rocks to wash the clothes and dry it. They went further and found another stream which had both water and big rocks nearby. They happily finished washing and bathing and waited for clothes to dry. After some time they gathered the dried clothes and started for home. By then it was already late, started raining and both of them got drenched in the rain. When they reached home sparrow lit up the fireplace and warmed up soon. The crow as such was conspiring against the sparrow knocked on the door and when the door opened it asked the sparrow shiveringly 'can I please come in and get warmed up near your fireplace as I don't have one in my house and I am freezing due to cold. I may die if I don't get some heat!' Kind little sparrow who was unaware of crow's evil intentions felt very bad and allowed it to come inside the house, offered hot soup and went inside the kitchen to make some. When the crow found itself alone it found the sparrow's eggs and started popping one by one into the fire and eating! When the first egg burst, sparrow heard the sound and shouted from inside 'what is that noise I heard?!' Crow said, 'I am popping some nuts in the fire as I am very hungry, it is just the sound of those nuts crackling!'. After sometime sparrow got suspicious and came out to check. Then it saw the horrific scene of her eggs being eaten by the crow!! Sparrow thought of teaching the crow a lesson and went inside the kitchen, heated up the spatula and beat up the crow black and blue!! Thus the crow was punished for its bad deeds.
Moral of the story: Never wish or do bad to others for it will come back to you one day.
I have listened to this same story for years every single day! It was my granny's attempt to put me to sleep after lunch as I was an extremely active kid (as always😉) and nobody would be able to sleep peacefully if I was awake😄 So my granny would take me with her, put me in her bed and ask me which story I would like to listen to. And I chose sparrow & crow's story every time! I don't know why I liked this story so much that I wanted to hear it everyday. And my gran would tell the story with same level of enthusiasm every single time. By the end of the story granny would have fallen asleep and I would quietly sneak out of the bed and run outside to play 😂 Not even a single day she could put me to sleep. Poor gran she would still try everyday. And I never said no to her either! So we were good 😄
This was my grandma's one of the favourite recipes. She was very fond of sweet dishes. I still remember her making it and her eyes used to lit up when she saw us enjoying eating it. She loved her grandchildren. I have spent a lot of time with my 'Ajji' in my childhood and I am very glad that I have so many memories of her. Loved listening to her fantasy and real life tales. I miss granny and her stories but I do know she is in a better place now 😊
I got this recipe from my mum. Easy, quick and delish.
Enjoy!

Ingredients:
2 ripe bananas mashed
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup rice flour
1/4 tsp cardamom powder
A pinch of salt
1/4 cup jaggery/sugar
Water as needed
Method:
-Mix all the ingredients - consistency shouldn't be too runny or too thick. It should be more or less like cake batter.
-Deep fry in oil until golden brown and eat with butter, coconut chutney or as it is.
Notes:
-You can skip the rice flour and use only whole wheat flour
-Do not deep fry in high flame as it gets brown on the outside faster but won't get cooked well inside
-If the batter is too thick add water as required
-Use any flavourless oil for frying. I used sunflower oil
Cheers!
